49ers HC Kyle Shanahan makes feelings clear on Brock Purdy as $3,737,008 QB eyes contract extension

Quarterback Brock Purdy was the last player selected in the 2022 NFL Draft. He went from "Mr. Irrelevant" to becoming one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Now, the San Francisco 49ers have declared that they intend to retain Purdy for the foreseeable future.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that he has confidence in Purdy as a quarterback. Shanahan also said that as long as he is the head coach of San Francisco, Purdy will be his quarterback. The head coach also said that he believes the signal-caller is capable of taking the 49ers back to he Super Bowl and getting a win the next time.

“I plan on being with Brock here the whole time I’m here. Brock’s been a stud. He’s a guy I’ve got a lot of confidence in just as a human, but it starts with what he’s done on the field these last two and a half years. We’re capable of winning the Super Bowl with him. He just almost did and I know he’s capable of getting the Niners a Super Bowl in the future,” Shanahan said.

Brock Purdy was third on the depth chart in his rookie season in 2022. After injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo, he ended up taking over as starter and led the 49ers to the NFC title game. In his second NFL season, he led San Francisco to Super Bowl LVIII, narrowly losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime.

How much will QB Brock Purdy make in 2025?

Brock Purdy's affordable rookie contract allowed the San Francisco 49ers to sign additional players to their roster without worrying about his salary. The former "Mr. Irrelevant" has made less than $1 million in each of his three seasons, beginning at $705,000 his rookie season, up to $985,000 in the 2024 NFL season.

In his fourth NFL season, Purdy's salary is set to be $1,100,000, however, he is hoping for much more via a lucrative extension.

The San Francisco 49ers' bout of confidence in the 25-year-old quarterback could lead him to getting a contract extension this offseason.
