The Chicago Bears got a head start in their search for a new head coach for the 2025 season. After a disastrous loss to the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving, the franchise decided to cut ties with head coach Matt Eberflus, making this the first time that they ever fired a coach midway through the season.
There's a widespread expectation that the next Bears head coach will have an offensive background to help the development of quarterback Caleb Williams. However, that's not a 100% certainty inside the organization.
According to Sports Illustrated insider Albert Breer, there's one interesting name who could emerge as the next leader in Chicago. Brian Flores, who currently works as the defensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings, could get a look for the job:
“He was a Boston College teammate of Ryan Poles in 2003, and the two have similar roots in the Bill Belichick system. I'm also told that Warren's vetting of Flores with all his old connections in Minnesota yielded strong reviews for the 43-year-old. He will, of course, have to lay out a plan for how things would be different with Williams than they were with Tua Tagovailoa in Miami.

Flores has experience as a head coach, as he spent three years with the Miami Dolphins (2019-21). He has done a good job with the Vikings and the Pittsburgh Steelers after his firing, however, questions about his relationship with his former quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, could represent a negative touch to his candidacy.
What happened between Brian Flores and Tua Tagovailoa?
During the 2024 offseason, the quarterback appeared on a podcast and openly criticized his former coach's treatment. Tagovailoa stated that Flores' coaching methods were composed of huge criticism, and that his confidence was shot due to comments made about his play.
Flores acknowledged the issue after the comments were made, stating that he wanted to learn from the situation and that there were things he could improve. He also said that he was happy to see Tagovailoa playing well under Mike McDaniel's relationship.
Which coaches are also candidates for the Chicago Bears job?
According to multiple reports, Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel would be considered by the Bears' front office.
Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury could also be considered.
