Trevor Lawrence is one of the most well-known names in the NFL right now. But former running back LeSean McCoy doesn't seem to share the excitement about the Jacksonville Jaguars' quarterback as the 2024 season approaches.
There are questions about whether Lawrence deserves the five-year, $275,000,000 extension he signed with the Jaguars in June. Regarding this, McCoy, speaking on the "Up & Adams Show," threw shade at the high price of the QB's contract:
"CeeDee Lamb is out of a contract soon. If you think Justin Jefferson is better than him, it's pretty close. Let's say JJ is better, right? But they are both elite, so he should be able to jump over the market and set the market up. For example, a guy like Trevor Lawrence who's really not that good, how the hell does he set the market up?"
Throughout his NFL career, McCoy has played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He amassed over 11,000 yards and 73 touchdowns. In addition, he was selected to six Pro Bowls and named to the First Team All-Pro twice. Given his extensive experience, McCoy is familiar with the dynamics of contract negotiations.

Trevor Lawrence's salary among NFL's highest-paid QBs
Trevor Lawrence now shares the record for the highest-paid NFL quarterback with Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals ($55 million average salary year), in accordance to the new five-year, $275 million contract deal he inked with the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason.
He will receive $200 million in guaranteed money, making him just the fourth quarterback in history to do so, joining Justin Herbert of the LA Chargers, Deshaun Watson of the Cleveland Browns and Burrow.
The Jaguars are hoping their franchise quarterback stays healthy this year so they can battle with the best teams in the postseason, as they did in 2022. Lawrence sustained four separate injuries last season, which prevented the Jaguars from making the playoffs: a knee sprain in Week 6, a high-ankle sprain in Week 13, a concussion two weeks after and an AC joint sprain in the following week.
