Aaron Rodgers has had an eventful start to his stint with the New York Jets.
Aside from being introduced as the team’s new starting quarterback, he also attended playoff games of the New York Rangers and New York Knicks. He even educated 2022 Defensive Rookie of the Year Sauce Gardner about Jessica Alba.
However, beyond those pleasantries, the real reason for Rodgers’ arrival begins now. He wants to bring glory to a franchise that hasn’t been to the playoffs since the 2011 NFL season. The Jets have only had one winning season since that year.
No wonder Jets fans were ecstatic after their team traded for the four-time NFL Most Valuable Player. Their excitement might go up a notch after this video from the team’s OTAs (via @NFL_DovKleiman on Twitter).

The 39-year-old quarterback rolled to his right before faking a throw and dashing to the end zone. However, football fans of other teams are not feeling Aaron Rodgers’ latest highlight.
One of them tweeted:
"Loading a Russell Wilson season."
The comment alludes to how Russell Wilson’s first season with the Denver Broncos panned out.
The AFC West squad looked to the one-time Super Bowl champion as the solution to their six-year playoff drought. Unfortunately, the streak continued after the Broncos finished 5-12 with Wilson behind center. He ended their campaign with 3,524 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
More football fans posted dissenting comments about Rodgers’ rushing touchdown at practice. Here are some of their reactions from Twitter:
Rodgers has just 35 rushing touchdowns throughout his career. His highest output in that category for one season was five in 2009. He only had one rushing touchdown in 2022 and has recorded just four over the last two seasons.
Aaron Rodgers will hope to avoid falling into the same fate as Russell Wilson did last year
Russell Wilson took charge of a young but talented Denver Broncos roster last year.
The Broncos had Melvin Gordon III, Javonte Williams, Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, and Tim Patrick in their ranks. However, he couldn’t elevate the roster to become a playoff contender, like how experts perceived them to be during the offseason.
Injuries to Williams and Patrick didn’t help their cause. Even with a Pro Bowl quarterback in Wilson, they finished last in points per game (16.9) last season. They hope that hiring Sean Payton this offseason will help turn things around in 2023.
Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers also has a deep collection of talent surrounding him in the Jets’ offense. Aside from 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson, they have Mecole Hardman and Tyler Conklin as well. They also brought in Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb, Rodgers’ teammates from the Green Bay Packers.
New York’s AFC squad also has a solid backfield rotation with Breece Hall and Michael Carter. Therefore, the team’s long-suffering fans hope that Rodgers, for whom the Jets gave up four draft picks to the Packers, will put an end to their team’s misery.
However, reaching the playoffs won’t be handed on a silver platter because the Jets have the sixth-toughest strength of schedule, per NFL Research. Aside from a challenging AFC East gauntlet, they will have five primetime games thanks to the Aaron Rodgers effect.
