On Sunday, Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets suffered a gut-wrenching 32-26 overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins, falling to 3-10 to get knocked out of playoff contention. It extended the franchise's long wait for a postseason berth to 14 years, the longest active playoff drought in North American sports.

The 2024 roster could have ended that streak had they won a few of the six one-score games they lost this season. However, Rodgers feels a 50-50 ball never drops in the Jets' favor because the franchise might be hexed.

During his media availability on Wednesday, the veteran quarterback spoke about how desperate everyone in the franchise is to end its long wait for a playoff appearance. He said:

“It might be some sort of curse we’ve got to snap as well. Whatever the case, this team, this organization is going to figure out how to get over the hump at some point.”

Rodgers believes the 2024 roster had the talent to end the drought but couldn't find the chemistry to have a successful season:

“We just haven’t quite haven’t figured out how to get that special sauce worked out, mixed up. It’s close. There’s a lot of great guys in the locker room. There’s some good mix of veterans and young guys, but we just haven’t quite put it all together.”

Will Aaron Rodgers leave the Jets in 2025?

While Aaron Rodgers believes the Jets need to break their curse, he might not be around in 2025 to help them do it. The franchise has reportedly made up its mind about moving on from the 41-year-old quarterback at the end of the season.

While the Jets may not be interested in having him on the roster in 2025, Rodgers is keen on remaining but would understand if the front office parts ways with him. When asked about his future last week, he said:

"I'd like to be healthy, I'd like to end on my feet and then I'd like to play well and I'd like to feel like I'm wanted back. If not, I will not be offended, I won't be upset. I'll be so thankful either way, whatever happens here. I have to be healthy (both) mentally and physically, and there has to be interest on both sides."

The Jets are tasked with finding a new coach and general manager. When they do, their first task will seemingly be to find a new quarterback to lead them next season.
