The future of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is still unknown. After emerging from his darkness retreat a few weeks ago, many thought we would have a decision from him on what his plans are.

As of yet, nothing has been said. The consensus is that Rodgers' time in Green Bay is over as the franchise is looking to the future with Jordan Love.

However, could Rodgers realistically stay in Green Bay for the 2023 season? In an interview with WBAY-TV, Packers president Mark Murphy gave an update on the situation. It certainly leaves many with a feeling that the Packers want this on their terms, not Rodgers'.

"Yeah, I mean unless, if things don't work out the way we want them, yeah, we would. He is obviously a great player."

So, there are many conclusions to take just from the snippet of Murphy's interview with Aaron Rodgers. It looks as if the Packers want to get something done that is in their best interests and that could mean moving on from him.

However, does this mean that the Packers will have Rodgers back next season only if the quarterback can't be traded? That is sure what it feels like at the moment.

Still, in another snippet, Murphy's phrasing of his words now leads many to think that Rodgers definitely isn't coming back. Murphy stated that the quarterback "had" a good career in Green Bay. Take a listen and decide for yourself.

"Very few players play for only one team. Obviously Brett had a good career. Aaron had a good career here."

Thankfully, the free agency period is just around the corner and hopefully, we won't have to wait too long to find out about the quarterback's future.

At the time of writing, it appears that the quarterback's two options are play for the New York Jets or retire. It is unclear if a return to Green Bay is even on the cards for both the organization and the player, but given Murphy's comments, that door feels like it's closing rapidly.

The Jets have pulled out all the stops to land the four-time MVP winner as they sent a delegation to his house in an attempt to woo him. New York has the pieces for Rodgers to take them to the playoffs.

A top defense that will only get better and a few offensive weapons for him to utilize. The other big sticking point will be the quarterback's huge salary.

If the Jets are willing to swallow the massive payday, then adding the four-time MVP winner will certainly be seen as a good piece of business. But for now, he remains a Packer.
