On Monday, after FOX Sports’ Nick Wright pitched the idea to the New England Patriots of trading promising rookie QB Drake Maye for Colorado Buffaloes star Shedeur Sanders, fans united on X to dismiss the idea.
"An absolutely insane scenario, what the hell????" One fan tweeted.
"Trade a future top 5 QB for a borderline NFL starter at best," another fan tweeted.
"If they can't win big games in college, why would you think they can win big games in the NFL on the worst team?" A fan tweeted.

More New England Patriots fans weighed in with their opinions.
The Patriots' position heading into the 2025 NFL Draft is at the heart of the controversy. If they lose their Week 18 clash against the Buffalo Bills, the team will secure the No. 1 overall pick. It will happen for the first time since 1993.
With this, the six-time Super Bowl-winning team can continue to revive the roster around Drake Maye.
The rookie quarterback's season has shown a lot of potential. Therefore, the No. 1 pick must select talent for wide receiver, edge rusher and cornerback positions. The focus should be on Drake with talent, and not hitting the reset button.
Buffs coach Deion Sanders aka Coach Prime's son, Shedeur Sanders, is considered a top prospect alongside Miami Hurricane's Cam Ward.
Drake Maye has faith in the Patriots' ability to rebound next season
Although the New England Patriots are out of playoffs, rookie QB Drake Maye isn’t letting it shake his belief in his team. Instead, he feels brighter days are on the horizon, which once was at its prime under ex-NFL QB Tom Brady.
While speaking on WEEI Monday, Maye discussed the frustration within the locker room, including a comment from teammate, Pop Douglas, who lamented being “tired of losing.”
“These guys are just frustrated we’re losing. Shoot, I’m frustrated too,” he admitted. "The best way to fix it is just to work harder and find ways to win.”
Despite the setbacks, Maye is confident about the team’s potential.
“We’ve shown flashes as a team when we’re putting our best foot forward,” he said. "It comes with the offense not putting the defense in bad spots. Especially me turning the ball over."
Speaking about the next season, he feels the offseason can be used to improve to come back stronger next September.
