“Adidas let that man go for the same reason Jerry Jones let you go” – NFL fans go off on Dez Bryant for backing Kanye West’s anti-Semitism

Divisional Round - Baltimore Ravens v Buffalo Bills
Former NFL wide receiver Dez Bryant.

Dez Bryant is the latest athlete to express his opinion on the recent controversy surrounding rapper Kanye 'Ye' West. His recent anti-Semitic comments and conspiracy theories have caused him to lose sponsorships with Adidas, Balenciaga, and even the Gap.

His Donda Sports management company lost clients including Los Angeles Rams defensive end Aaron Donald and Boston Celtics Jaylen Brown.

Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown came out in defense of Ye, as he is now referred to. In a statement released on his Twitter page, Brown said that he will continue to stand by West and that he believes everyone should be allowed to express themselves and use free speech.

Now, Dez Bryant has shown his support for West in a recent Twitter post. He has supported West in the past as well, even revealing that he voted for him during his brief Presidential run in 2020.

On Wednesday night, Bryant tweeted that he feels that freedom of speech is not for everyone and only those who say the "right" thing.

"It seems that freedom of speech only applies whenever the right person is saying it"

NFL fans didn't necessarily agree with the former NFL wide receiver, saying that there is no place for anti-Semitic comments and that they shouldn't be tolerated.

One tweet said that Adidas dropped West just like Dallas Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones dropped Dez Bryant, referring to his time with the Cowboys and abrupt exit. A majority of others were quick to give their best definition of freedom of speech and how this situation doesn't define a lack of it.

When did Dez Bryant play in the NFL?

After playing college football at Oklahoma State, Dez Bryant was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys with the 24th overall selection in the 2010 NFL Draft. Wearing the iconic #88 jersey for the Dallas Cowboys, he played eight seasons with the team.

He had over 1,000 receiving yards in three consecutive seasons, from 2012 to 2014, and was one of quarterback Tony Romo's favorite targets during his tenure with the side.

The Cowboys released him in April 2018 and he remained a free agent for over six months until he signed with the New Orleans Saints. Just two days after signing with the Saints, he tore his Achilles in practice, officially ending his season.

He spent all of 2019 rehabilitating his injury and then signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 2020. He played six games with the Ravens, for 47 receving yards and two touchdowns. He hasn't played in the NFL since the end of the 2020 season, but has not officially retired.
