Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and his wife Kelly have purchased a stake in the NWSL's Angel City FC women's soccer team.
The Staffords' invested and are now part of an ownership group of over 100 people that includes tennis star Serena Williams, her husband, Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian, former professional soccer player Abby Wambach and others.
The Staffords took their four daughters to an Angel City game last season and immediately knew they wanted to be a part of it.

Angel City has only played one season and already has an estimated worth of over $115 million. While it hasn't turned a profit as of yet, it is expected to do so within three to five years, which could turn out to be faster than other soccer teams in the NWSL.
Stafford now joins a list of NFL players who have invested in other professional sports teams, especially women's athletics. Patrick Mahomes recently became an investor in NWSL's Kansas City Current, a soccer team that is co-owned by his wife Brittany Mahomes.
Last August, two-time Super Bowl winning quarterback Eli Manning announced that he had become a minority owner in the NJ/NY Gotham FC women's soccer team.
The investment from other professional athletes into women's professional soccer is just another way to hopefully grow the sport around the country.
Matthew Stafford's net worth in 2023
Quarterback Matthew Stafford was drafted by the Detroit Lions with the first overall draft pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. The Lions agreed to terms with the quarterback the day before the draft began.
He signed a six-year deal worth up to $78 million which included $41.7 million in guaranteed money. At the time, that was the highest amount of guaranteed money ever paid in an NFL contract.
In July 2013, he and the Lions agreed to a three-year contract extension, worth $53 million. In 2015, he signed another extension with the Lions, this time for five years and was worth $135 million.
The Lions would then decide to trade the quarterback in March 2021 to the Los Angeles Rams. He would then lead the Rams to a Super Bowl LVI win in his first season with the team. The Rams signed him to a five-year extension just a month later worth $160 million.
Through these lucrative NFL contracts as well as other investments that he has made throughout his career, the Rams quarterback has an estimated net worth of about $90 million.
