Amazon Prime Video drops big Black Friday NFL game news after mixed TNF reaction

Amazon Prime dropped big news after poor TNF start

After Amazon Prime Video's inauspicious start to their Thursday Night Football reign, they're announcing a big change for the 2023-24 NFL season. Previously, Prime's NFL content was only available to subscribers, but one game will be available to everyone.

Michael McCarthy tweeted:

"Amazon Prime Video says it will stream this season's Black Friday NFL game for free. Even if viewers are not paying Amazon Prime members, the tech giant will offer free access to the game. The NFL's first Black Friday's game's expected to kick off at 3 pm ET on Nov. 24, 2023."

For at least one game a year, viewers won't have to pay for the streaming service to catch one of the primetime NFL games of the week.

Thursday Night Football was relatively poor last year. Most of the games were duds and a few of them were among the least entertaining football games played in recent memory.

One audience had to endure Matt Ryan and Russell Wilson's 12-9 overtime duel. Nevertheless, Prime has TNF for a while, so they're trying something new this year.

How long is Amazon Prime going to show Thursday Night Football?

Thursday Night Football wasn't always on Amazon Prime Video, but it will be for the foreseeable future. Beginning last year, the NFL and Amazon are in the midst of an 11-year streaming contract.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said about the deal via NBC:

“These new media deals will provide our fans even greater access to the games they love. We’re proud to grow our partnerships with the most innovative media companies in the market. Along with our recently completed labor agreement with the NFLPA, these distribution agreements bring an unprecedented era of stability to the league and will permit us to continue to grow and improve our game.”

Hopefully, for everyone's sake, the Thursday Night Football games will get a little better in the future.

Not that Amazon had anything to do with the low quality, but the games were not very entertaining. This was made worse by the fact that they had to pay to watch the games.
