Anthony Richardson Injury Update
Anthony Richardson suffered a concussion in Week 2 against the Houston Texans. With what happened to Tua Tagovailoa last season still fresh on the minds of fans, pundits, coaches, and others, all precautions are being taken. Officially, it is a grade one head cranial concussion.
According to Carrus Health, the injury can cause "headaches, difficulty focusing, memory loss, dizziness, and nausea." Overall, out of three grades, it is the most mild. Considering his youth as well, expect a quick bounce back in the grand scheme of things.
Did Anthony Richardson suffer a concussion?
Richardson suffered a concussion against the Houston Texans in Week 2. He did not return to the contest. The concussion is a minor one but with all of the attention directed at the NFL thanks to the Tua Tagovailoa injury, expect the league to treat the injury with extra caution.
He did not practice on Thursday, according to CBS Sports, and is listed as questionable. At this point, even if he somehow returns to the lineup, he could find himself out of sync in the Week 3 game against the Baltimore Ravens.
It could take him a series or two to get back into the swing of things, but it would still lower the ceiling of his production.
When will Anthony Richardson return?
It isn't looking great for his odds of turning around quick enough to make a start against Lamar Jackson in what was an eagerly awaited affair. With things trending against Richardson, they are trending for Gardner Minshew to get his first start of the 2023 season.
Last week, Minshew threw for one touchdown, zero interceptions, and completed about 82% of his throws. He earned 171 yards in the contest.
With it being early in the year, most owners should still have a backup quarterback worth trying out. This week, it might be smart to do so as while Minshew was efficient from a non-fantasy perspective, the goal is to predict massive stats. Those with that goal in mind should look elsewhere.
That said, those who believe Richardson is their best option should still start a fully healthy backup quarterback for the moment. Even if they forget to check, they will at least have someone in the lineup.
