Baker Mayfield was not a factor in the Carolina Panthers' 25-15 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night. However, the quarterback's actions during the celebration immediately went viral.
Mayfield walked onto the field and proceeded to headbutt his fellow teammates one at a time. He was wearing just a hat and all of his Panthers teammates were wearing their helmets, which made it even stranger. While some embraced the quarterback's tactics, others looked like they were caught off guard.
Broadcaster Al Michaels stated that it was a good way to get into the NFL's concussion protocol without playing. With the uptick in concern over CTE and traumatic brain injuries in the NFL, many felt this was unwarranted. Baker Mayfield's video quickly spread across social media and fans and others on Twitter were a bit perplexed by his actions.
While the 27 year old is famous for his exaggerated reactions (both good and bad), this might be overdoing it. Here's what fans thought of the incident:

Without Baker Mayfield under center, the Carolina Panthers have entered the race for the NFC South
The NFC South is one of the few divisional races where anything can happen down the stretch. It's not because all four teams in the division are over-performing. Heading into Week 10, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Atlanta Falcons were tied for the division lead with just four wins.
The Carolina Panthers, led now by quarterback P.J. Walker, have shown some improvements in the last few weeks. Especially after the dismissal of former head coach Matt Rhule.
The win over the Falcons on Thursday night now has Carolina at 3-7. The Buccaneers have a divisional lead at 4-5 and currently have a tie breaker over Atlanta. The New Orleans Saints and Panthers each have three wins now, which puts them each just one game back. Even if the Buccaneers and Saints each pick up a win this Sunday, Carolina is still very much in the NFC South race.
This was a much different story for Carolina just a few weeks ago as the one-win team saw a change in leadership. Following the trades of wide receiver Robbie Anderson and running back Christian McCaffrey, many believed they were tanking.
Now with the energy P.J. Walker has brought to the team, Carolina have turned a corner.
