The Detroit Lions had a Thursday night to remember. In the opening game of Week 14, Dan Campbell's team completed a sweep against one of their divisional rivals, the Green Bay Packers, winning 34-31 with a last-second field goal by kicker Jake Bates.
How the game came to this field goal was an interesting point. With 40 seconds remaining on the clock and the ball in field goal range, the Lions faced a 4th & inches. Perhaps all the other coaches in the NFL would kick the field goal there, but Dan Campbell took a different approach.
Detroit called a fourth-down play with the risk of missing the conversion and not scoring. But David Montgomery crossed the line, a new set of downs was made, and the Lions were able to burn the clock to kick a game-winning field goal two plays later.
On X/Twitter, NFL fans praised the courage and the risk taken by Dan Campbell, with his team now on an 11-win streak following his bold fourth-down call:

"I feel like a lot of coaches would take that field goal on 4th and short, but not Dan. Crazy," said one fan.
"I would literally do ANYTHING Coach Campbell asked of me. I love that man something wonderful," another fan tweeted.
"Everybody wishes their team was like Detroit,", one fan said.
With their Thursday Night Football win over the Packers, the Lions now officially clinched a playoff spot.
What's Dan Campbell's record as the head coach of the Detroit Lions?
In what has been one of the greatest turnarounds for a franchise during the 21st century, Campbell currently holds a 36-27-1 record with the team since he became their head coach in 2021.
He has always improved. In 2021, Detroit finished 3-13-1, improving to 9-8 a year later. In 2023 they won the division with a 12-5 record, and now, with four games to go, they sit with a 12-1 record.
Campbell also has a 2-1 record in the playoffs, taking the team to the NFC Championship Game in 2023 before losing to the San Francisco 49ers.
