Bijan Robinson and Saquon Barkley are buckling up against a huge NFL trend. The league shifted its focus from the running back position since the start of last decade, but Barkley (2018) and Robinson (2023) still managed to be drafted in the top 10 of their respective draft classes.

No player from the position shone as much as Saquon during the 2024 season. Fresh off the free agent market, he was just the 9th player in the history of the league to surpass 2,000 rushing yards in a single season, and he did so with a game to spare in the regular season.

After a dominant performance against the Los Angeles Rams in the playoffs, with over 200 rushing yards and two touchdowns, Barkley earned the respect of his peers.

Bijan Robinson took to Twitter to celebrate Saquon's performance, especially what it means for the running back position after years of being undervalued:

"Man Saquon thank you for making us RB’s look amazing. This position is looking great."

This was not the first time during the 2024 season that Saquon Barkley dominated the Rams. When the Eagles traveled to Los Angeles during the regular season, Saquon had 26 carries, 255 rushing yards and two touchdowns during the night, establishing a new franchise record.

In two games in 2024, he had 459 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Those are strong numbers for the running back.

The Eagles contract with Saquon Barkley looks more and more like a bargain

After leaving the New York Giants, who chose not to match his three-year, $36 million offer that he received from the Philadelphia Eagles, he joined their NFC East rivals from the same state where he played college football. The match was instantaneous.

During the 2024 Hard Knocks, Giants owner John Mara was caught on camera saying that he'd have a hard time if the running back remained in the division and signed with Philadelphia. After a 2,000-yard season, while the Giants won just three games during the year, Mara's regrets about the decision should not be doubted.

The deal strongly helps the Eagles' salary cap. Saquon will have cap hits of lower than $10 million during his three years in Philadelphia.
