The NFL rules and officiating have seemingly skewed in the offense's favor for years but fans, analysts, and even coaches like Bill Belichick haven't stopped complaining about it.

During Monday night's Wildcard Round clash between the Minnesota Vikings and the Los Angeles Rams, those frustrated with the lopsided nature of the rules were given another reason to be irked.

Early in the second quarter, the Vikings' pass rush swarmed Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, who dropped the ball.

Minnesota linebacker Blake Cashman scooped it up and returned it for what was presumed to be a game-tying touchdown. However, after a replay review, the referees ruled that Stafford didn't fumble the ball and had thrown it away near an eligible teammate, making it an incomplete pass.

The call left Belichick incensed. The six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach voiced his frustration on ManningCast, saying:

"It's an offensive league. What are you guys doin'? There's no rules to help the defense in the NFL. You can get away with that, and they call it an incomplete pass. It's an offensive league. You guys should coach defense in the NFL; you'd know what it's like."

Rams advance to divisional round after upset win over Vikings

Blake Cashman's scoop and score and a successful extra-point attempt would have leveled the scores at 10-10. Instead, the score remained 10-3 and the Vikings' offense continued to struggle.

The Rams scored 17 unanswered points to extend their lead to 21 and virtually end the game as a contest. Minnesota did score a touchdown midway through the third quarter, but LA's defense shut down the explosive offense and held them to only 269 yards of offense.

The Rams won the game 27-9 and advanced to the divisional round, where they'll take on the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. The Vikings will feel hard done by the overturned touchdown. However, when they look back on this game, they'll realize that their offense's underwhelming display was the reason why they couldn't get past the Rams.
