Bill Belichick makes thoughts known on Tom Brady's involvement in Pete Carroll's hiring

The NFL coaching carousel is getting close to finishing up, as it was announced on Friday afternoon that the Las Vegas Raiders had hired Pete Carroll to a four-year contract. There are a lot of different directions that this can go with a loaded AFC West in terms of coaches with Andy Reid, Jim Harbaugh, and Sean Payton already there.

While being a guest on "The Pat McAfee Show," former New England Patriots coach and current North Carolina Tar Heels coach Bill Belichick discussed how he believes in his former quarterback and the current minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, Tom Brady, after the Raiders announced they hired Pete Carroll to be its new coach.

"Tom Brady is a really smart guy but I don't know what that process was or how it went, I've been pretty busy around myself here in North Carolina but Tom's a... he does a great job and whatever his involvement was in this hiring I'm sure it was positive," Belichick said.

Carroll has a career record of 170-120-1 in the NFL and 11-11 in the postseason. He won Super Bowl XLVIII during the 2013 season. Belichick and Carroll met in the following season's Super Bowl, where Russell Wilson threw an interception at the goal line to lose the game for the Seattle Seahawks.

Carroll did not coach in the 2024 season but was an advisor for the Seahawks.

What NFL teams are left searching for a coach?

The coaching search is coming to a close. Almost a quarter of the NFL had openings at the end of the regular season. Only two teams — the New Orleans Saints and the Dallas Cowboys — are still searching to fill the vacancy in their coaching positions.

The Saints have not had any names stand out in their coaching search, as most of their candidates have found jobs already. According to their social media account, they interviewed Kellen Moore, Joe Brady, and interim coach Darren Rizzi. On the other hand, the Cowboys are reportedly close to signing offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer as their new coach.
