Bill Belichick will begin the 2024 NFL season away from the sidelines after more than two decades but links to teams such as the Cowboys and the Eagles are only hotting up. The six-time Super Bowl-winning coach is sure to be in demand the moment any team decides that their current setup is not working out. Even though his reputation has been tarnished a bit by the final years in New England, his defenses were still constantly good and he did not have an elite quarterback.

Given Mac Jones was ultimately his selection since Bill Belichick was also the de facto General Manager for the Patriots, one of his weaknesses could be said in selecting the right personnel to build a team after Tom Brady's departure.

Eric Mangini, the former NFL coach who worked under him, thinks that is why a team where the general manager can stand up to him would be the best place for the former New England head coach to be.

However, appearing on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Mangini highlighted that Bill Belichick might not be willing to accept such an arrangement. He said:

"The difficult part about that is which GM is going to have the strength to stand up to Bill, and to stand up to him consistently. To say, this player is better for your vision than the player that you like. Is Bill going to be able to take a step back and accept that?"

The exception that he could think of was the Dallas Cowboys because the owner is the general manager there and one cannot push back against their own employer in the same way as one would with any other employee. Coach Mangini concluded:

"Now maybe Dallas is the best place for Bill because the GM is the owner, and that’s one person you can’t push back against, and he was able to push back against Bill Parcells so maybe he can make it work with Bill Belichick. That is the dynamic you need as an owner who's not directly involved or doesn't know football as much."

Bill Belichick also linked to Eagles and Bills in addition to Cowboys

Any team with a great roster with a solid quarterback will be linked to Bill Belichick in case their incumbent coaches struggle. In addition to the Cowboys, the Eagles have been namechecked often after last season's collapse put Nick Sirianni in a tough spot to begin this season. The Bills have also been mentioned as a place where he could want to be, against the Patriots in their own division.
