Despite not being the New England Patriots head coach since the end of last season, Bill Belichick remains close to that franchise and bitter with the New York Jets. This rivalry has many years in the making and not even now, when he's a free agent, Belichick stops taking jabs at the New Yorkers.

During Monday's appearance on the "Pat McAfee Show", the eight-time Super Bowl champion coach was asked by the host if he had balls from his duels against the Jets. This led Belichick to poke fun at the Jets and the dominance he asserted with his Patriots.

"The one behind me is, I think that was our 21st straight win. I had a few Jets balls up there on the shelf, so thoughts be good time to pull them out," Belichick said.

The Bill Belichick-Jets rivalry started right before he became the Patriots head coach. Back on Nov. 15, 1999, the New Yorkers beat New England 24-17, which prompted Pete Carroll's exit from the Pats and opened the door for Belichick, who was coaching the Jets' defense that same night.

Belichick was set to become Bill Parcells' successor in New York, but his tenure didn't even take off, as he went to Foxboro and signed with the Patriots. During all those years, the coach was ruthless with the Jets, boasting a 38-11 record against them, including 15 straight wins that ended in January.

Patriots beat Jets on Sunday led by Bill Belichick's pupil Jerod Mayo

The Patriots returned to winning ways on Sunday against the New York Jets with a 25-22 close win at Gillette Stadium. The Pats scored 11 points in the fourth quarter to come back from a 22-14 deficit and took the second win of the season.

This was major news for them since the Jets dominated them 24-3 in Week 3 of the season. The New Yorkers were trying to snap a four-game skid, but the Patriots worsened their situation and now Aaron Rodgers says they're in a 'dark place'.

Jacoby Brissett completed 15 of 24 pass attempts for 132 yards and zero touchdowns while Aaron Rodgers completed 17 of 28 for 233 passing yards and two passing touchdowns.

That didn't matter as Rhamondre Stevenson found the endzone twice and Drake Maye one time. The Pats are still 2-6, but this era is just starting. Bill Belichick didn't find success overnight, especially against the Jets.
