Bill Belichick weighs in on referee's controversial call in Chiefs vs Bengals

Bill Belichick transformed the New England Patriots into a dynasty that won six Super Bowls under him in two decades. Hence, he is no stranger to allegations that the referees always helped him and Tom Brady out.

Now, with the Kansas City Chiefs having won the Super Bowl for two years straight, fans have been attacking them for getting favorable calls from the officials. In a recent episode of the Pat McAfee Show, McAfee asked Belichick how teams can ensure that they don't get affected by all the hate thrown at them for being "great".

The former head coach said that negative comments are not something that players can control. Instead, they should just focus on things they can control, and just give it 100 percent every time they're on the gridiron.

"I think you control what you can control, and prepare and play hard every time," Belichick said.

When asked how he felt about the controversial pass interference call in the game between the Chiefs and Bengals, and whether it was fair or not, the former Patriots head coach said:

"I think that Kansas City put themselves in a tough situation with the hands to the face call and made it fourth and long. When you look at the play, the defender gets there a little bit early. Sometimes, they let that go, sometimes they don't, but he's clearly there early. So I don't think you can second guess the call."

He agreed with the referee's call that the Bengals had committed DPI. He also dropped a piece of advice for the Bengals:

"It's really just, you know, need to play the ball better, and not the man."

Bill Belichick still open to coaching in the NFL

If people assumed that Bill Belichick has bid adieu to coaching forever, they would be wrong. According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, Belichick would like to come back to the NFL as a coach in 2025.

He had interviewed with several teams, including the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Chargers for the DC role, but he did not take up any of the vacant roles. Instead, he chose to go down the media route and signed up with a bunch of shows.

However, he is expected to be particular about which team he wants to join for his NFL comeback. According to former Patriot Julian Edelman, it will be the New York Giants:

"I remember vividly anytime we played in New York, or we played the Giants, you could just see a little like jingle in Belichick's spirit, because he loved talking about those old Giants teams, and he loved talking about that organization. You know, you could tell that he loved the New York Giants," Edelman said.

However, for now, the legendary head coach has his hands full with all his analyst gigs.
