Sean McDermott and the Buffalo Bills' dreams of ending their three-game losing streak against the Kansas City Chiefs and booking their berth in the Super Bowl did not come to fruition as they lost 32-29 at Arrowhead Stadium in the AFC Championship Game and were eliminated from the playoffs.

The Bills had a 22-21 lead midway through the fourth quarter but turned the ball over after a failed Tush Push attempt on 4th-and-1. Many fans and analysts argued that Josh Allen had gotten to the line-to-gain and should have been awarded the first down. However, the referees ruled in the Chiefs' favor, who scored a touchdown on the subsequent drive.

In the game's penultimate drive, the Bills, who were trailing by three points, had the ball with 3:33 left on the clock and all three timeouts at their disposal. After a 13-yard run from Allen, they surprisingly called three straight pass plays and gained only five yards.

On the 4th-and-5 play, Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo called for a corner blitz, catching the Bills quarterback off-guard, who heaved the ball down the field in desperation. Tight end Dalton Kincaid could have hauled the pass in and kept Buffalo's season alive. However, he failed to make the play, turning the ball over to the Chiefs, who iced the game with a first down.

A few Bills fans online were incensed by the loss and called for McDermott to be fired. While some fans believe the Bills were unlucky to lose the game, others pinned the blame on McDermott's playcalling.

"Sean McDermott and the Buffalo Bills coaching staff are the worst coaching staff in the entire NFL. They should be fired tomorrow and totally replaced from top to bottom. Some of the worst play calling I’ve ever seen at the end of that game," one fan wrote.
"The Bills lost the game when Sean McDermott started going for 2 point and 4th down conversions every drive. While Benford going down hurt the Bills it wasn’t as impactful as Dre Greenlaw in the Super Bowl last year, him and Warner were all over the field then the defense stalled," another fan wrote.
"Points allowed by Sean McDermott’s defense vs Mahomes in the playoffs: 38, 42, 27, 32," a fan commented.
"Yet again a Sean McDermott defense never shows up when it matters," a fan opined.

A few claimed it was time for the Bills to move on from their head coach.

"Sean McDermott is a disgrace and needs to be fired. His defense just rolled over and died again in the playoffs," one fan claimed.
"Calling it now.. Sean McDermott will be fired. He clearly can not get this team over the Chiefs hurdle," a fan predicted.
"The Bills just cannot win when it comes down to big moments like today. I’d rather not make the playoffs at all than have heartbreak over and over again. Sean McDermott should be fired immediately," a user opined.

Sean McDermott vows to get over the hump

While some fans wanted Sean McDermott to be fired, the Bills head coach is already jotting down his plan to help the team end their long wait for a Super Bowl berth. In the post-game press conference, the 50-year-old confidently proclaimed that the franchise's first Lombardi Trophy win is not too far away:

“This is obviously a challenge for us, but we’ll figure it out."

McDermott is seemingly confident that the Bills will retain him as their head coach next season, which is not the news some fans were keen on hearing after the team's loss to the Chiefs.
