(PHOTOS) - Bills players gift $50,000+ worth diamond-studded MVP chain for Josh Allen on Christmas

Josh Allen has been considered the best player of the 2024 season, the biggest favorite to be MVP. And for Christmas, he is getting a gift befitting of one.

The Buffalo Bills' 3,549-yard, 26-TD quarterback received a bespoke diamond-encrusted keychain with the letters MVP above his jersey number 17. On the back are the names of his offensive linemen.

This is an inversion of the usual trend of quarterbacks gifting their offensive linemen. Recently, Allen's peer and rival Joe Burrow attracted significant attention when he was reported to have given his offensive lineman katanas (Japanese swords historically used by and associated with samurai).

However, they were far from his first choice:

"They wanted guns. And I was like, 'I don't know about guns, guys.' So I was in the weapon mindset, and I was like, 'What's a cool weapon?' Samurai swords, I think, are pretty dang cool."

Russell Wilson was also reported to have handed out packages that included a gift card, bag, shoes, and rum to his OL. Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes handed out coolers, among other things.

Josh Allen credits fiancée Hailee Steinfeild for inspiring his MVP-caliber season

Last month, Josh Allen achieved a milestone off the field: he became engaged to actress Hailee Steinfeld, whom he had been dating for a while now. Their relationship has since become one of the most heavily-covered in the media, but it goes further than that.

She may also have become a primary reason why he has been playing like the heavy favorite to win MVP. Dion Dawkins was the first to insinuate it, saying:

“There’s something about it. When you have that one stable person that you can rely on and go home and hug and get a laugh no matter what, I think that’s dope. And that’s what I think is going on.”

Allen did not deny that:

“She’s been a huge part. The morale, the support. When I get home, she’s my biggest fan, my biggest supporter. She’s just the best.”

And the numbers prove it: since his November 22 proposal, he has had 14 touchdowns in three games - seven passing, six rushing, and even one receiving off a lateral by Amari Cooper.
