Brett Favre has recently received a lot of backlash over the past month for his role in the embezzlement of millions of dollars from Mississippi's welfare fund. Favre has been accused of funneling $5 million to build a new volleyball stadium at the University of Southern Mississippi. This was while his daughter was playing volleyball there.

But there's more to the tale. It now seems that Favre has also been involved in the funding of a particularly controversial product. The former Green Bay Packers quarterback actively promoted the product PreVPro which was claimed to be a cream to treat concussions.

According to Front Office Sports, pharmaceutical company Prevacus received a sum of $2.2 million in Mississippi state welfare funds. This was for the development of this miracle cream. The funds came directly from Mississippi Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds.

What makes matters worse is the animal cruelty that went into making this cream. NFL insider A.J. Perez mentioned just how the company was looting the needy while also killing harmless dogs in the process:

"Thousands of dollars of the TANF funds were diverted from Prevacus’ original concussion treatment to develop the PreVPro cream. However, it was never actually produced in mass quantities to be sold to the public, in spite of multiple animal experiments that led to the deaths of at least a half-dozen dogs."

The former Packers QB's reputation has really taken a beating over the past few months thanks to all the controversies he currently finds himself embroiled in. Multiple NFL fans have even said that the gunslinger should be removed from the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Fave, though, has so far maintained his plea of innocence.

Brett Favre claims he has been "unjustly smeared" by the media over welfare fund scam

While the media and fans took aim at Favre over the scandal, the former Packers star came out with a statement of his own. He claimed his innocence in a statement to FOX:

"I have been unjustly smeared in the media. I have done nothing wrong, and it is past time to set the record straight."

Favre claimed that he was not aware that the money he asked to establish a wellness center at his alma matter was coming from the welfare fund:

"No one ever told me, and I did not know, that funds designated for welfare recipients were going to the University or me. I tried to help my alma mater USM, a public Mississippi state university, raise funds for a wellness center. My goal was and always will be to improve the athletic facilities at my university."

There appears to be evidence that Favre was in the know-how of what was happening. As authorities continue to uncover more clues regarding the case, the optics are certainly not looking good for the Packers legend.
