NFL fans were stunned as J.J. McCarthy was shown on the Minnesota Vikings-Detroit Lions Sunday Night Football broadcast. McCarthy is out for the season after a season-ending meniscus injury.

McCarthy was selected 10th overall by the Vikings, but he didn't appear in a game this season due to injury. During the broadcast, they showed McCarthy, leaving viewers stunned by how he looked.

Many fans thought McCarthy didn't look like an NFL quarterback, as they thought he looked too young.

"Bro looked 12 years old," one fan said.
"Yes that’s JJ. He’s been tucked away for the past 8 months," another fan said.

Several NFL fans had never seen McCarthy before or in months, so they were shocked by his appearance.

"Dude has not been hitting the weight room," a fan said.

Fans think McCarthy doesn't look like an NFL quarterback and is too small.

"He’s softer than he looks," a fan wrote.

McCarthy led the Michigan Wolverines to a national championship last season before being selected 10th overall by Minnesota.

McCarthy went 240-for-332 for 2,991 yards, 22 touchdowns and four interceptions with the Wolverines in 2023.

Vikings expected to get trade calls with J.J. McCarthy

The Minnesota Vikings have a quarterback dilemma this offseason.

The Vikings drafted J.J. McCarthy 10th overall, but free agent signing Sam Darnold has played well. With that, the future of both quarterbacks has been up in the air and NFL insider Adam Schefter says Minnesota will get trade calls on McCarthy.

“In a limited quarterback draft class, where there are far more teams that need quarterbacks than quarterbacks that can actually step in right away, I definitely think teams will be checking in with the Vikings to see if they have any interest in trading J.J. McCarthy,” Schefter said. The [Vikings] may say ‘we don’t,’ and that’s the end of it. But do I think teams will explore that option … of course, absolutely, 100 percent.”

Darnold is a pending free agent but could be franchise-tagged this off-season.

Darnold led the Vikings to a 14-3 record and finished No. 5 in the NFC after losing the top spot in the NFC North to the Detroit Lions in Week 18.
