The Raiders might have had yet another horrible season but Brock Bowers has been a shining light amidst all the gloom in Las Vegas. The franchise finished 4-13 and bottom of the AFC West. They then fired their coach and general manager. They need a new quarterback for 2025. Their star receiver Davante Adams was traded midseason, forcing them to depend heavily on their rookie tight end for offensive output.

Brock Bowers has come sailing through those expectations and pressure. He broke Mike Ditka's longstanding rookie yardage record this season finishing 1,194 yards. His 112 receptions were also the most by a player in their first NFL season. He was named First Team All-Pro for his achievements and was the only player from those selected in the 2024 NFL draft.

This monumental achievement saw fans celebrate what he accomplished this year on X/Twitter.

Here are some of the reactions from the social media platform.

Many even complained that it looks likely that Brock Bowers will lose out to quarterback Jayden Daniels for the Offensive Rookie of the Year award despite his record-breaking achievements. The Washington Commanders quarterback has led his team to the playoffs in his maiden season but some felt that personal statistics and what the Raiders star achieved despite roster limitations deserve more praise.

"And they’ll probably still give the OROY to a QB" - lamented one.
"If he's [sic] not OROY its a travesty" - said a second.
"And he still won’t get OROY. Can the NFL show some semblance of consistency and do the right thing(?)" - wondered a third.

Brock Bowers' accomplishments compared to George Kittle

Some complained that even though Brock Bowers was impressive as a rookie, he should have been a second-team All-Pro as the top honor should have gone to 49ers star George Kittle. San Francisco also failed to make the playoffs and had to deal with a variety of injuries on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.

George Kittle had 1,106 yards but reached that number in just 78 catches, giving him a much higher average of 14.2 yards per catch compared to Brock Bowers' 10.7 per attempt. The rookie also contributed to five touchdowns, whereas the veteran notched eight.

However, one could argue in favor of the Raiders' star too because he had 596 yards after catch and 15 contested catches, which was the highest amongst tight ends in the 2024 season. What is indisputable, though, is that he is already one of the best tight ends in the league and has reached those heights in his first year as a professional footballer.
