Entering Week 16, the San Francisco 49ers stand a 1% chance at making the NFL playoffs. With little left to play for, the Niners will now have to turn their attention to the offseason. One thing they will probably have to settle before planning for the future is how much money they are willing to invest in Brock Purdy's new deal.
As things stand, Purdy is set to make $1.1 million in 2025 as part of this rookie deal. With the Super Bowl window closing in on the franchise, it's time for GM John Lynch to show Purdy the money. The amount is up for debate but they will likely have to pay Purdy the going rate for a quarterback. That number could be anywhere between $50-$65 million a year.
Former 49ers DB Richard Sherman, who made a trip to the Super Bowl with the franchise only to be beaten by Patrick Mahomes' Chiefs in Miami, believes there should be no question when it comes to the franchise investing that kind of money in Purdy. On his podcast, Sherman said this week:bil
“This guy’s been to an NFC Championship and a Super Bowl. He’s played incredibly well in the postseason. You can talk about Dak Prescott and his playoff woes. You could talk about Jordan Love and his playoff woes. When you’re negotiating with a team, unless you’re willing to move on from Brock Purdy, they’re going to be paying him $50+ million.

Projected Brock Purdy contract would make him NFL's highest-paid QB
Dak Prescott is currently the NFL's highest-paid quarterback after he signed a four-year, $240 million deal with the Dallas Cowboys in September. Prescott's fully guaranteed $60 million a year salary in 2025 sees him at the top of the NFL's highest-paid players list.
Since that is now the going rate for a quarterback, ESPN's Bill Barnwell proposed a five-year, $325 million deal for Purdy. That contract would pay out at $65 million a year, making him the league's highest-paid quarterback.
If the Niners do throw that money at Purdy to ensure long-term security at QB, they will likely have to let some big names like Deebo Samuel go to make the numbers work.
