The Cleveland Browns put together a fantastic upset on Sunday, defeating the Baltimore Ravens 29-24 in their first game without Deshaun Watson at the helm. Quarterback Jameis Winston, the third quarterback in Week 7, turned a great performance at home to earn their second win of the season.

It was the best performance from a Browns quarterback in the 2024 season. Winston's 334-yard game was the highest number in 2024 - let alone the fact that Deshaun Watson did not have a 200-yard game at any point this season. He also had three touchdowns, no interceptions and was 27 of 41.

After finally seeing a good quarterback performance in a season full of disappointments, Cleveland fans were extremely excited. Winston had good performances as a backup in New Orleans, and although 2-6 is not a good record, at least they had something to rejoice on Sunday.

"Like everyone has said for the last 2 years, Deshaun Watson was the problem, good riddance!", said one fan.
"Gee its almost like having a competent QB is important or something", noted another.
"Extend Jameis Winston. Let Ken Dorsey keep calling the plays. Let's get a win streak going", a third one spoke.

Watson finished the season with five touchdown passes, three interceptions and a 63,4% completion rate. His highest number of passing yards in a game was 196 in Week 3 against the New York Giants. Although his salary is one of the highest in the league, the offense wasn't working and a change was needed.

Why is Jameis Winston playing for the Browns instead of Deshaun Watson?

For the second straight season, Watson, the starter for the Browns, suffered a season-ending injury. In 2023, he had a shoulder problem after six games and was down for the year; this time, what happened was a torn Achilles. He also played just six games in 2022 due to his suspension.

Winston, a former first-overall pick, played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New Orleans Saints in recent years. Although his career hasn't panned out as expected, he found himself a place in the league as a backup for different teams.
