Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski boldly championed Myles Garrett's case for Defensive Player of the Year. His statement arrives as the race tightens between Garrett and Pittsburgh Steelers' T.J. Watt, with both stars pushing for the coveted award.

Stefanski leads the Browns while defending Garrett's stellar 2024 campaign. Watt, recently named Steelers' team MVP for a record fifth time, stands as Garrett's primary competition despite his recent performance dips.

During a press conference on Thursday, Stefanski addressed reporters about Garrett's impact. The timing proved crucial as he battles through a thigh injury heading into the final week of regular season play.

"I don't see how he's not the best defensive player in the game this year," Stefanski said.

The timing highlights Garrett's remarkable achievement of 14 sacks, making him the first NFL player to record four consecutive seasons with 14+ sacks. His 75 total pressures in 2024 dwarf Watt's 47, according to PFF's statistics.

The numbers reveal a fierce competition. Myles Garrett leads all pass rushers in pass rush win rate at 25%, while TJ Watt has posted 11.5 sacks and an NFL-best six forced fumbles, including three strip-sacks.

The betting markets paint an intriguing picture. Watt's odds have shifted dramatically from -115 to +190, according to various sportsbooks. Denver's Patrick Surtain II has emerged as a surprise contender with -230 odds.

Watt's historic season includes joining the 100-sack club in just 109 games, second only to Hall of Famer Reggie White's 96-game mark. His 61 tackles (40 solo) and 19 tackles for loss in 2024 showcase his all-around impact.

Garrett aims to win the DPOY award for the second straight season. His consistent pressure rate and ability to disrupt offenses have kept him in the conversation despite Cleveland's challenging season.

The award carries significant historical weight. If Watt wins, he'll join Steelers legend Joe Greene as the franchise's only two-time DPOY winner. For Garrett, a second consecutive trophy would cement his place among the NFL's all-time elite defenders.

As Week 18 approaches, both players face different challenges. Garrett must overcome his thigh injury, while Watt seeks to recapture his early-season form. Their final performances could sway voters in what has become one of the tightest DPOY races in recent memory.
