Liam Coen is taking over the Jacksonville Jaguars soon. However, the development has not gone very well at all with fans of his former team.

Late on Thursday, reports emerged that the erstwhile Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator had agreed to become Duval's next head coach after a tumultuous period that saw him being alleged to have "ghosted" superior Todd Bowles (which was later proven false - he had been attending to a sick child) before accepting the offer.

According to The Athletic's Diana Russini, the promise of being able to choose his general manager and earn "Ben Johnson-level money" (the Chicago Bears' new HC will reportedly earn $13 million annually) made Coen do so.

Many Buccaneers fans were outraged at such a late defection:

"Dude blocked the Bucs phone number," one fan said.

Here are more fan reactions:

"Liam Coen is a snake," one called out.
"Glad his true colors were shown (expletive) him," one sneered.
"No class," another retched.

Liam Coen's Jaguars U-turn an indictment of disdain towards ousted ex-GM Trent Baalke

The timing of Liam Coen's hiring is one of the most suspicious in NFL history. Back in the afternoon of Wednesday, it seemed certain that he would spurn the Jaguars and remain in Tampa as OC. And then, in one move, everything changed.

Later that day, owner Shad Khan announced that he was firing Trent Baalke after four and a half seasons as general manager. Then, the very next day, Coen was speaking with executives in Duval once again, leading to his acceptance of their offer.

According to BroBible's Garrett Carr, it is a very damning indication that many in the league hate Baalke - and that is already not to mention his clash with current Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh that tanked the San Francisco 49ers' competitiveness until he was replaced by John Lynch at the end of 2016:

"It’s safe to say that the problem with the coaching search in Jacksonville was Trent Baalke. Liam Coen wanted nothing to do with the job when Baalke was going to be his partner. Now that he can have some say in who the general manager is going to be, it’s a much more appealing job."

In the interim, erstwhile assistant Ethan Waugh will assume GM duties while the organization seeks a more permanent choice.
