Lavonte David and Todd Bowles have worked together for several years. David, of course, has been with the Buccaneers longer, his time with the team tracking back to before Bowles was the head coach of the New York Jets.
David spoke about his head coach as Bowles finds himself under fire in the wake of losing at home to rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. His words came in the form of a video clip posted on Twitter/X by reporter Evan Closky.
"We know what type of guy we got, what type of leader of men he is," David said. "And if you don't hear nothing else complaining about him, I don't think you should complain about him. So just know that he has our best interests [at heart]."
"He's a guy who want to win as well, and he just tried to put us in the best position to win football games. And this year didn't fall [the way we want], it didn't do that, but you could tell that we love him by the way we play for him."

Bowles has also faced criticism for the Buccaneers' passing defense, which has rated in the bottom five for the last two seasons. However, it appears Bowles has survived the post-season firings that have occurred across the league.
Exploring why Todd Bowles wasn't fired following playoff loss
Of course, for every negative argument for Bowles, there is a positive. Under Bowles' leadership, the Buccaneers have stacked an additional win every season since finishing 8-9 in 2022 in Tom Brady's last season.
The Buccaneers have also won the NFC South every year that Todd Bowles has led. Even Bruce Arians, who won a Super Bowl with Tom Brady in his first year away from the New England Patriots, only won the NFC South once.
Put simply, there's plenty of reason to believe that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. As the premier franchise in the NFC South, the Buccaneers have no problem keeping fans engaged throughout the year.
Once that slows down or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers decline in win total, Bowles might be on the hot seat. For now, however, Todd Bowles appears to have done enough to remain safe.
