Bucs Super Bowl champ puts Daniel Jones in hot seat for 2024 season after $160,000,000 Giants deal

New York Giants v Miami Dolphins
Is Daniel Jones on the hot seating heading into next season?

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is working his way back from a season-ending knee injury last season. With the lucrative contract that he signed last offseason, the Giants may not give him much time to get back on track.

Super Bowl-winning wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson gave his take on the subject on Wednesday's episode of Undisputed.

Johnson said the Giants are forced to start Jones, who is guaranteed $92 million in his current contract. Johnson added though that Jones will have to show the organization that he has what it takes to lead them to success.

After the 2024 NFL season though, the New York Giants could decide to cut their losses and move on from Jones.

"This season, they're stuck with him, there's nothing they could do. I mean, they gave him $92,000,000 guaranteed money on a four-year deal. When you get to beyond 2024, this is a crucial year for Daniel Jones. If he wants to remain a New York Giants, there's no question about it when they get to 2025. They could part ways with him."

Keyshawn Johnson continued by saying:

"If they decide, 'Hey, there's a better option in this situation'. This isn't 10 years ago, in the NFL, when people were afraid to take blows to the salary cap, they'll do it in a heartbeat... I think 2025. If he doesn't play well this year, it's probably his last year."

Keyshawn Johnson said that with the NFL increasing the salary cap every year, teams aren't afraid to make decisions that will cost money at first. This is because they know they will make it up in the future.

Daniel Jones not expected to start the season on PUP list

The New York Giants will report to training camp beginning on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. With so many questions surrounding quarterback Daniel Jones' recovery and readiness to start the 2024 season, NFL insider Ian Rapoport had an update on Tuesday afternoon.

During an appearance on NFL Network, Rapoport shared his information that Jones will be completely ready to start practicing with his team. He, thush, won't start training camp on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list.

"expected to be healthy and ready to go."

During the offseason, the New York Giants signed quarterback Drew Lock to a one-year deal worth $5 million. Lock was signed to be Daniel Jones' backup but, if he were to struggle with an injury or performance, the Giants appear to be confident that Lock could run the offense efficiently.
