The Chicago Bears’ 2024 season was nothing short of disappointing. With a 5-12 record, it was their fourth consecutive playoff miss. This led to the firing of head coach Matt Eberflus, whose late-game mismanagement cost the Bears a critical loss to the Detroit Lions.
Quarterback Caleb Williams shared his expectations for the team's next head coach on the St. Brown podcast. After Eberflus was fired, Williams is clear that he wants an HC, who has a strong and no-nonsense leadership style.
Williams stressed the need for a coach who understands the intricacies of building a lasting relationship. Someone with a deep offensive background and a figure he can grow alongside for decades.
"Selfishly, I want an offensive-minded guy, so I can build with him and, you know, be with that coach for the next ... yeah, 19, 17, 15 years," Williams said. "And so I can also learn and grow, and you know, things like that, um, from him, and what he's seen, and what he’s gone through with, you know, maybe other QBs or been around."

Additionally, the young QB also pointed out the importance of game management and clock control. Talking about the previous head coach's failed leadership, Williams mentioned that it is critical it is for a coach to not only understand X’s and O’s but also command the game with strategic time management.
"Win championships," Williams said. "That’s the—I mean, that’s the only goal that I have for, uh, my NFL career is to go win a championship, and championships start with one, just so you know."
That said, the Chicago Bears have already interviewed several candidates.
