Drake Maye has kicked off his first off-season on a very special note. The New England Patriots rookie announced his engagement to longtime girlfriend Ann Michael Hudson in an Instagram post on Wednesday, inviting an influx of well-wishes from the NFL world.
Among those offering congratulations was Maye's fellow rookie quarterback, Caleb Williams. The Chicago Bears quarterback reacted to Maye's news and seemed impressed with the proposal, letting Maye know just that.
"Love doing life with you. Can’t wait to marry you!❤️," Maye wrote on his Instagram.

Williams dropped a one-word response in the comment section.
"Woah," Williams wrote.
Williams wasn't the only NFL star to congratulate the happy couple. Furthermore, the No. 1 overall draft pick has been friends with Maye for years.
Fellow rookie QB JJ McCarthy, currently out for the season, also reacted to Maye's post:
"Dat man!!!!"
The Patriots' official team account, Patriots TE Hunter Henry, the Commanders' KJ Osborn and Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix's wife, Izzy, also commented on the announcement.
Drake Maye was excited to play against 'old friend' Caleb Williams
Caleb Williams and Drake Maye have been friends for a long time, but they had never faced off on the field until the Bears-Patriots regular-season clash in November.
“You spend a lot of time with those guys, you see them some on visits, some at the Combine,” Maye said (via NBS Sports). “With Caleb, I’ve seen him since high school. Going to the same camps, we were at Elite 11 with each other, we had some college visits together. We’re going through the process again."
Maye revealed that they were friends in college and that he enjoyed watching Williams play, finally getting the chance to compete against him. In fact, Maye noted that playing against a rookie from the same draft class is always special.
“He’s just so talented. Getting to know him and see him compete, we’ve never played each other, so this will be the first time. It’s pretty cool," Maye added.
With the 2024 season now complete for both quarterbacks, fans can look forward to another potential matchup once the 2025 campaign begins.
