The NFL Scouting Combine for Calijah Kancey has started in the most perfect way possible. The defensive tackle from Pittsburgh surprised everyone when he ran a 4.67 40-yard dash on Thursday, becoming the fastest in 20 years.
Kancey now holds not only the record for the fastest time for a defensive tackle, but he's officially the fastest guy ever measured at more than 280 pounds. His impressive performance will surely improve his draft stock.
Some of the undersized defensive tackles who later become stars in the NFL are Aaron Donald and Ed Oliver, who are pretty good company to be alongside. Donald was the previous defensive tackle with the best 40-yard dash time since 2003, when he put together an impressive 4.68 in 2014.
This is the fastest time for a defensive tackle since the NFL started clocking Combine times in 2003. Kancey is already considered one of the best interior linemen in the draft.

What is the 2023 NFL Combine? Where does it happen?
The 2023 NFL Scouting Combine is happening at the Lucas Oil Stadium, the home of the Indianapolis Colts. It's an event made for NFL teams to analyze and interview draft prospects in advance of the 2023 NFL Draft, which will happen in April.
There's a series of drills for players to participate in and give teams a better look at their athletic abilities. They also get their measurements and individual interviews with prospects to know whatever they want to know. This event is vital for many players who want to improve their draft stock.
The event is also where many NFL negotiations happen, as all 32 general managers are there with many team officials. Agents are also present to get a grip on possible deals for their clients, with NFL free agency starting in less than two weeks.
Is it as fun as any NFL game? Not really, but it does have some value as an entertainment event - and if you're a die-hard fan, you know how important the Combine is for the league as a whole. This is why many draft analysts get excited when the time comes - they want to get their analysis right.
