Cam Newton is one of the greatest players in the history of the Carolina Panthers. As one of the most prolific dual-threat quarterbacks, he led the franchise to three straight NFC South titles, including a historic 15-1 record in the 2015 season that resulted in an appearance at Super Bowl 50.

But last year, as he was visiting his former team's practice facility, he noticed something: his image missing from the murals. Speaking on his "4th-and-1" podcast on Thursday, he recalled:

"People don't know this story, but I'mma tell it. I don't have no quarrel with David Tepper... Last year, we had a 7-on-7 tournament in Charlotte? Me, being who I am, I have access. We went into the Panthers facility, and you mean to tell me that one of the greatest Panthers to ever play ain't up nowhere?
"Who brought it to my attention? Who? My son. CH was like eight, but he was running around there. So as a man, when you have to explain to your son, "'Daddy, where's your picture?'"

But eventually, the question was answered when the tour guide told Newton that the second and third levels were basically a shrine dedicated to him.

Cam Newton excluded from Panthers legends' visit to Germany

Just before the 20-17 win against the New York Giants in Munich last Sunday, the organization invited legends Steve Smith Sr., Luke Kuechly, Julius Peppers, Thomas Davis and Jake Delhomme to fly with them and promote the brand. There was one omission, the 2015 MVP who had played with each of them at some point in his career.

In that same episode, Newton expressed his disappointment at the snub:

"I didn't even know certain opportunities even existed. So did it hurt my feelings? Yeah, it did. I'm like, damn, bro, I gave this city everything."

Newton has not officially retired and the Panthers think the same way, pointing it as the reason for not extending him an invite.
