Deshaun Watson's trade has aged poorly. At this point, there is no other way to describe the situation. Three seasons after signing the first fully guaranteed contract in NFL history, the quarterback has yet to play in his first playoff game. He also has yet to play double-digit games in a single season.
2025 offers the potential to be Watson's first to accomplish those two feats, but a recent update on the quarterback's health has raised questions about that. On Monday, Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot reported that Browns general manager Andrew Berry said a "setback" had occurred with Watson's Achilles tendon.
The news caused an eruption of predictions about what the Browns could end up doing at quarterback.

"Cam Ward is coming to Cleveland," one fan said.
"Injury settlement! Both parties move on now!" another advised.
"Not good. Time to move on," another added.
More fans made their predictions and gave their advice on the Deshaun Watson situation.
"He will be on IR or PUP for 2025. Cousins incoming QB1 Cousins QB2 Jimmy G QB3 Rookie," another said.
"Get Kirk Cousins," another called for.
"Then they have to draft a QB," another claimed.
The news comes on Black Monday, a day in which multiple non-player organizational leaders have learned their fate. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski remains on the staff at the time of writing.
Exploring options for potentially Deshaun Watson-less Browns in 2025
Of course, without the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the team is at the mercy of what the Tennessee Titans elect to do. If they draft Shedeur Sanders first overall, that would most likely leave the Browns to draft Cam Ward after concluding his one-year stay with the Miami Hurricanes. One NFL analyst has already shared his thoughts about Ward.
The team also has the option to wade into free agency and bid on a few quarterbacks. Kirk Cousins could be available, but his veteran price tag could be a tough pill to swallow on top of Watson's average $46 million salary, per Spotrac.
More likely than not, drafting Ward, regardless of the naysayers, and attempting to get their hands back on Joe Flacco, Aaron Rodgers with a reworked deal, or another released quarterback might be the top options for the Browns. Of course, retaining Jameis Winston might be the most convenient option. Will the Browns change their offseason plan based on Deshaun Watson's injury update?
