Patrick Mahomes won the Super Bowl last season despite the Chiefs struggling to identify a top receiver for the offense and that is why they drafted Xavier Worthy in the first round this year. And if practice sessions are anything to go by, the rookie could be worth his weight in gold.
31 NFL teams will be united by one common aim to stop Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs from winning the championship again this season. If they do, they will become the first franchise in the Super Bowl era to achieve that feat. Given that they won last year with their wide receivers dropping crucial catches, they would have hoped that that is one area they could target as a potential weakness.
But Xavier Worthy's introduction could change that dynamic. In training camp, the quarterback rolled to his left and threw a pass over 60 yards while still in motion. And with a defender trailing him until the very end, the wide receiver came with a touchdown reception. It was enough to bring Chiefs fans to their feet.
On social media, the reaction was instantaneous. Many marveled at the throw, while others were amazed by the catch. Here are some of the reactions from X, formerly known as Twitter.

Some other reactions focused on the Buffalo Bills. The New York franchise, and Super Bowl competitors against the Patrick Mahomes' Chiefs in the Josh Allen era, initially had the opportunity to select Xavier Worthy. Instead, they traded down and took Keon Coleman, who it must be noted can also end up being successful in his own right.
But on X, people kept blasting them for failing to take the current Chiefs receiver, especially in light of also trading away Stefon Diggs to the Texans.
Here are some reactions from that angle.
"The Buffalo Bills really gave Xavier Worthy to the Chiefs. Just let that sink in"
"Good job Buffalo... DUMB@$$"
"Would like to submit a formal “Thank You” to the Buffalo Bills from all of #ChiefsKingdom"
Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes has better offense with Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown
Last year, during the playoffs, Travis Kelce came up tops again and again to give Patrick Mahomes a weapon to win, while Chris Jones and the defense dominated on their side of the ball. But the Chiefs' previous Super Bowl victories have been built on another elite receiver other than the tight end.
They had Tyreek Hill when Mahomes won his first title. JuJu Smith-Schuster filled in ably during the 2022 season. Last season was an exception. But with the addition of Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown, Kansas City has moved to rectify that. If the veteran is washed, then they have a rookie. If the rookie fails, the veteran provides insurance. The league should indeed be afraid of the three-peat.
