After being released by the New England Patriots following roster cuts, quarterback Bailey Zappe has reportedly landed with the Kansas City Chiefs. NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported the news that Zappe has been signed to the Chiefs' practice squad.
Zappe was drafted in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL draft by the Patriots. Zappe spent five seasons playing college football, setting the FCS/FBS record for most passing yards (5,967) and touchdowns (62) in a single season at Western Kentucky in 2021.
The Chiefs currently have just two active quarterbacks on the team: Patrick Mahomes and backup Carson Wentz.

Upon learning that the team added Zappe to the practice squad, Chiefs fans joked around, saying that Mahomes' days as a starter are numbered. Some wrote that Mahomes' job isn't as safe as he thinks it is with the team adding another quarterback to the team.
Here's how fans reacted:
"Are Mahomes days numbered?" one fan questioned.
"Ring chasing lmfao," one fan wrote.
"And just like that Mahomes job isn’t as safe as he thought……" one fan tweeted.
While some fans trolled and joked about Zappe being signed by the Chiefs, others were happy to see him land on a Super Bowl-contending team. Some people think he has a chance to win a ring as a practice player. Others pointed out how he'll be a good addition to the practice squad team.
Here's how other fans reacted:
"I’m happy for him. He got so much hate that wasn’t needed. If anyone thought he was supposed to be a great player you’re a fool. He was always a QB 2/3. Best of luck to him," one fan said.
"He’s about to become an absolute beast sitting behind Mahomes," one fan said.
"Good for Zappe," one fan wrote.
