The Kansas City Chiefs acquired wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans for a fifth-round pick that could become a fourth-round pick on Wednesday.

After learning his team acquired a new weapon for Patrick Mahomes' offense, defensive lineman Chris Jones was hyped. Shortly after the trade was announced, Jones wrote a two-word message on X, showing his excitement:

"Let’s gooooooooooooo."

Jones has every reason to be excited. DeAndre Hopkins is a reliable wide receiver. After five seasons of recording at least 1,000 receiving yards with the Houston Texans, Hopkins recorded a 1,000-yard season with the Arizona Cardinals in 2020, when he was traded to the team.

Injuries struck the following two seasons, and the Cardinals released Hopkins, who was then signed by the Tennessee Titans in 2023. In his first season with Tennessee, Hopkins showed he could still be a No. 1 wide receiver, recording 75 catches for 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns while playing the entire season.

So far this season, Hopkins has 15 catches for 173 yards and one touchdown.

DeAndre Hopkins trade makes all the sense in the world for the Kansas City Chiefs

It was either DeAndre Hopkins or Cooper Kupp that the Kansas City Chiefs were going to trade for before the trade deadline.

The Chiefs desperately needed help at the wide receiver position. Before their season even started, they lost wide receiver Marquise "Hollywood" Brown to a clavicle injury after signing him in free agency.

The injuries at the wide receiver position continued with Rashee Rice, the team's leading wide receiver in yards and touchdowns last season, suffering a torn ACL in Week 4, ruling him out for the season.

The Chiefs even ruled out JuJu Smith-Schuster for this week's game, who is dealing with a hamstring injury.

The Chiefs were thin at the wide receiver position and needed to add a reliable pass-catcher. While Hopkins hasn't had a great season so far, he hasn't been put in the best situation in Tennessee.

Joining the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs led by Patrick Mahomes, Hopkins could thrive.
