San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey sent a heartfelt message to his brother Luke McCaffrey after he was selected by the Washington Commanders in the third round with the 100th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Entering the draft, McCaffrey was projected to be a fourth-round pick, so it was a bit earlier than some expected the wide receiver to go. But, after he was taken by Washington, Christian took to social media to heap praise on his brother.
"Couldn’t be more proud of my brother @mccaffrey_luke. What a story. Bet on yourself every step of the way. What a story," Christian wrote on X.

As Christian says, it is an incredible story, as Luke originally went to college to be a quarterback. However, after not being able to land a starting job, Luke McCaffrey switched to wide receiver for his final two years at Rice.
He ended with 58 receptions and 903 all-purpose yards in 2022 and last season, he recorded 992 yards and 12 touchdowns to boost his draft stock.
Where does Luke McCaffrey fit into Washington?
Rice Owls wide receiver Luke McCaffrey will battle for a starting job with the Washington Commanders in 2024.
The Commanders will be starting Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson at wide receiver, while McCaffrey can compete for the third starting job in Washington.
Although Luke isn't as explosive as Christian, he does have a knack for catching the ball with good hands.
"Big slot target who comes from high-end NFL bloodlines and who showed noticeable improvement in his second season at the position," wrote NFL.com's draft analyst Lance Zierlein.
"Luke lacks the size of his father, former Pro Bowl receiver Ed McCaffrey, and the explosiveness of his brother, Offensive Player of the Year Christian McCaffrey, but he catches with soft hands, great focus and extreme toughness."
Luke McCaffrey will also be catching passes from Jayden Daniels, whom Washington selected with the second overall pick in the draft.
