The Houston Texans have fired offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik after the team's 2024 campaign.

ESPN's Adam Schefter broke the news on X, formerly known as Twitter, highlighting that Slowik went from a once hot prospect for a head coaching job, to someone now looking for work.

Fans took to Twitter to react to the news, with reactions ranging from shock and unsurprise, to blaming quarterback CJ Stroud for Slowik's firing.

"Crazy, that’s what happens when you get a defensive minded HC, if the OC succeeds he’s gone, if he doesn’t, then you fire him, but the HC escapes culpability," said one fan.
"Big changes in Houston! 🚨 DeMeco Ryans is clearly setting the tone for the Texans’ future after a strong season. Who do you think should step in as the new offensive coordinator? 🤔"said another.
"Before the year he was getting head coach hype 😭" another fan wrote

Bobby Slowik & The Texans' Downward Trend

Slowik began to pick up steam as a potential head coaching candidate last season when he and rookie CJ Stroud made waves with the Ohio State product's amazing rookie season. There were big expectations for Stroud and the Texans heading into the 2024 season.

However, when the offense took the field, they often came out a bit flat, not scoring nearly as many points as one would assume a team with Stroud, Joe Mixon, Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins, Dalton Schultz, and Tank Dell would.

In fact, Houston dropped games to the Titans and Jets, who finished at the bottom of the pack at the end of the NFL season. The Texans however ended up winning the AFC South and punched their ticket to the AFC Divisional Round after a massive victory over the Chargers in the Wild Card.

However, when faced against the Chiefs in Arrowhead Stadium, Houston was unable to get past Patrick Mahomes and company to reach the franchise's first-ever Conference Championship game.

Now, with concerns surrounding the offense, the offensive line, and even CJ Stroud after a bit of a downward season compared to last year, Houston is looking to build on its already promising foundation and take the organization to the next level.

Now that Houston has pulled the trigger on moving on from Slowik, it's likely we can expect more big moves from the Texans before the offseason is all said and done.
