Washington Commanders guard Sam Cosmi signed an extension with the team on Wednesday. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the 2021 second-round pick out of Texas and the Commanders agreed to a four-year deal worth up to $74 million. It includes $45 million in guaranteed money.

Cosmi began his career with the Commanders as a starting tackle. In Week 13 of the 2022 season, Cosmi filled in as right guard and finished the season as a guard. He played the entire 2023 season as a guard. In his three-year career, Cosmi has played 40 games while starting in 32.

After hearing about Cosmi's extension, Washington fans were happy to see one of their core OLs get paid. Cosmi will provide protection for rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels for a while. Fans also think the deal was great for both sides.

"This is a STEAL for Commanders," a fan wrote.
"This is a steal of a deal compared to the other deals in the off-season. Cosmi is extremely under appreciated," one fan tweeted.
"18.5/year, that’s big money but he’s worth it. The team got a good deal on the guaranteed money tho," a fan tweeted.

While many fans were happy with the contract the Commanders gave Sam Cosmi, some thought it was questionable.

"Just a horrid decision by a poorly managed franchise. This sort of idiocy would never have been permitted under previous ownership. Cosmi is injury prone and has already demonstrated a marked decline in explosiveness and acceleration at a position that demands it in spades," a fan said.
"I love how committed they are to being awful," one fan said.

The Atlanta Falcons made Chris Lindstrom the highest-paid guard in NFL history by signing a five-year, $105 million deal on Mar. 13, 2023.

Dallas Cowboys guard Zack Martin ($18.4 million) and Denver Broncos guard Quinn Meinerz ($18 million) round out the top five highest-paid guards in the NFL.
