Commanders fans rejoice as team decides to replace Sean Taylor statue: “Dan Snyder getting washed from history"

Washington Commanders fans are rejoicing online as the old Sean Taylor statue will soon be replaced with a new and improved version. In November 2022, the Commanders unveiled the statue which brought criticism from the fanbase and fans across the NFL, who felt it wasn't enough to honor him.

NFL insider Adam Schefter reshared the news on X that the current installment will be removed. The Washington Commanders will work with Sean Taylor's daughter, Jackie, and his family to create a statue to honor the late Washington safety.

Fans were quick to share their opinions on X about how excited they were to hear the news. Many believed it was the last piece of removing former Commanders' owner Dan Snyder. Others blamed the former NFL owner for not showing enough respect to Sean Taylor to give him a proper statue.

The current statue that will soon be replaced was described by most as nothing more than a mannequin that could be found in a department store. The wired structure that was intended to depict Sean Taylor, displayed his uniform from when he played for the Washington Redskins. Fans on X agreed with the notion that this move was more than overdue.

"Good cause that first one was an abomination put some respect on that man," stated one fan.
"Long overdue," another relieved fan said.
"That thing was an eye sore man it’ll be nice to have a real one," declared another user on X.

Excitement for the new statue at the Commanders' stadium continued in the comments section. As Josh Harris' ownership group enters its second season, it's the fanbase is optimistic on multiple levels.

"They gonna put the old one on their desk as a paper weight?," one fan asked jokingly .
"Thank the lord some competent people are finally in charge. We are so back," said a Commanders fan.
"Do it right for The Taylor Family," one fan professed.

Sean Taylor's daughter Jackie shared a special message after statue plans released

Former Washington safety Sean Taylor died in November 2007 after he was shot in the leg during a home invasion. He was just 24-years-old. His fiancee and 18-month-old daughter Jackie were thankfully unharmed during the attack.

Jackie has continued his athletic endeavors and now plays volleyball at the University of North Carolina. The Washington Commanders released a video message from Jackie Taylor after the plans for the new statue were released. In her statement, she thanked Josh Harris, the Commanders and the fanbase for keeping her dad's legacy alive.

"Hey fans, Jackie Taylor here, I'm excited to announce along with the Washington Commanders, plans to unveil a statue to honor my Dad. I'm thankful for Josh Harris and the Commanders family for their continued commitment to keep my Dad's legacy alive.
"I look forward to sharing plans in the future and learning more about my Dad through this process. I'm forever grateful for the outpouring love and support and filled with gratitude that my Dad will forever be a part of the burgundy and gold family."

She also said that she looks forward to working with the Washington Commanders in creating a new statue and learning even more about her late father in the process. She said she would provide updates on the progress of the new statue.
