Cooper Kupp makes feelings known on Ja'Marr Chase making history with Triple Crown

Ja'Marr Chase joins Cooper Kupp in winning Triple Crown

Cooper Kupp knows what being a receiving Triple Crown (most receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns) winner feels like, having achieved it during his monstrous 2021 breakout that saw him win the Super Bowl and be its MVP. On Monday, he sent his congratulations to the newest member of that exclusive club.

On Sunday, Cincinnati Bengals star Ja'Marr Chase finished the season leading the league in all those categories: 127 receptions for 1,708 yards and 17 touchdowns. All this came despite a season-long struggle that saw the team go 4-8 before rallying to win its last five games and remain in the playoff hunt, being eliminated only after the Denver Broncos shut out the top-seeded Kansas City Chiefs.

The Los Angeles Rams stalwart tweeted in response:

"Incredible year, @Real10jayy_.

Could Cooper Kupp be on the move after 2024 season?

Unlike Ja'Marr Chase, Cooper Kupp will still be playing this month, as the Rams host the Minnesota Vikings next week in the wild-card round. But once their season ends, his future may be uncertain, at least according to the team's ESPN beat writer Sarah Barshop, who wrote before Week 18 that his contract situation will be one thing to observe:

"(He) has two years remaining on the extension he signed in June 2022, but he has only $5 million in guaranteed money left. Kupp's cap hit is $29.8 million in 2025 and $27.3 million (in 2026). While general manager Les Snead has referred to him as one of the Rams' 'weight-bearing walls,' it seems unlikely the receiver will be back at that number next season."

There is some logic behind shopping the one-time Pro Bowler elsewhere. He has been hampered by injuries and has failed to replicate the successes of 2021, being surpassed in prolificness and productivity by Puka Nacua over the past two seasons, especially in 2023, when the then-rookie had a then-record 105 receptions for a record 1,486 yards.

Meanwhile, Tutu Atwell and Demarcus Robinson also saw significant playing time, combining for over 70 receptions and 1,000 yards. Robinson even started all the games he played for the first time in his career, scoring a team-high seven touchdowns.

Kupp ends 2024 with 67 receptions – his lowest since he was a rookie – for 71 yards and six touchdowns.
