In 2023, the Mississippi Department of Human Services filed a lawsuit against Brett Favre and many others for inappropriate use of nearly $77 million of state funds. Favre's role in the construction of a volleyball court for the University of Mississippi, where his daughter played from 2017-2022, was highly criticized.
The former Green Bay Packers quarterback has always pledged innocence since the case was brought up, but today, his business partner Jake Vanlandingham pleaded guilty for his role in the welfare scandal.
Vanlandingham is Favre's partner in the drug company Prevacus. The company also received funds under Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TNAF) but reportedly failed to provide the funds to needy families. Prevacus made $2.15 million from the scheme.
As per attorney Matt Tympanick, Brett Favre will likely get indicted for his role in the welfare scandal. He recently posted on X and said:

"As I stated long, long ago, this investigation will end with #BrettFavre being indicted. I have to think Mr. Vanlandingham's guilty plea is conditional on a cooperation agreement where he will testify to the grand jury and at trial against Favre."
Jake Vanlandingham pleading guilty has certainly made the situation tougher for Favre, and it will be interesting to see the specific details the former will provide to the jury about the whole scandal.
Mississippi's state auditor speaks out after Brett Favre's business partner pleads guilty
After Jake Vanlandingham pleaded guilty, Mississippi's state auditor, Shad White, posted on X and said:
"Today Jake Vanlandingham, Brett Favre’s former business partner, pleaded guilty in federal court for his role in the large Mississippi welfare scandal. I applaud federal prosecutors for their continued work on this case."
"I’m grateful for my team at the Auditor’s office and the FBI for digging up the facts related to this case. We will continue to assist federal prosecutors as needed going forward."
Earlier reports stated that Brett Favre was paid $1.1 million from TANF funds for three public speeches that, in reality, he never made. The Pro Football Hall of Famer denied these allegations, but we expect new details to become available soon to the public.
Favre could face severe punishment if he pleads guilty or is found guilty, since reports indicate that the University of Southern Mississippi's athletic foundation received $5 million in TANF funds at the time the quarterback's daughter was studying there.
