Owner/general manager Jerry Jones proclaimed he was "all in" and willing to do whatever it took to build a winning Dallas Cowboys team. Those sentiments are quite ringing true for his team, which is now 1-2 through the first three weeks of the 2024 season. Jones' most recent comments that he couldn't afford to sign running back Derrick Henry in the offseason have fans fuming.
As the Dallas Cowboys struggled to find success in their running game, Henry had 25 rushes for 151 yards and two touchdowns in the Baltimore Ravens' 28-25 win over Dallas. The revelation that Jones had an opportunity to sign him is making Sunday's loss even worse for some fans. Others don't believe the longtime team owner was even a contender to sign Henry.

Fans on X have various opinions on the matter, as it's a common thought that Jerry Jones isn't the only team owner who deals with a salary cap. Others have continued to call for him to step down and allow his son, Stephen Jones, to take over the role of owner and general manager.
"Why can't he just go away?! He is the doom of the cowboys!" asked one fan.
"not only could they have afforded him, but if they even shot him a text i’m willing to bet he would’ve given em a discount," said one person on X.
"I’m pretty sure that’s not true," said another.
Jerry Jones did have enough salary cap space to sign quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, though. The Cowboys reunited with former running back Ezekiel Elliott this offseason and have Rico Dowdle, who is a four-year veteran. Combined, both running backs had just 38 rushing yards against the Baltimore Ravens.
"I call BS. I didn’t realize Henry was an option, that would have been awesome," one fan unaware that Henry was in play for the Cowboys said.
"Not having $5m tied up in your third QB might have helped," suggested one person on X.
"Doesn’t sound 'All In' to me," expressed one Cowboys fan.
What did Jerry Jones say about inability to sign Derrick Henry?
While speaking to reporters after the Dallas Cowboys' loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, Jerry Jones was asked why his team wasn't a contender to sign Derrick Henry. The latter was a free agent after spending the first eight seasons of his career with the Tennessee Titans.
According to The Athletic's Jon Machota, Jones first said that the team "couldn't afford it."
Reporters then continued to ask why the Dallas Cowboys couldn't afford to sign Henry. In reply, 81-year-old Jones compared the situation to a real estate investment.
"I don't know, why can't you buy a mansion when you live in a different kind of house?" Jones said. "We couldn't afford it. We couldn't make that all fit. That's as simple as that."
Jerry Jones added that he had full confidence in his coaching staff and that they would be able to fix the issues on both sides of the ball.
