Cowboys fans have had a lot of genuine reasons to complain about in the last few years, but Brandon Aubrey is proving to be an inspired choice. Brett Maher, an NFL veteran, lost his place after some glaring misses during the playoffs two years ago. With a choice to be made, Jerry Jones with a USFL veteran and former soccer player, much to the chagrin of many observers.
But he has won over any skeptics that might have been there with his consistent production, becoming the 2023 NFL points leader. He has carried that form into this season, and the latest exhibit of his talent came during the Cowboys' matchup against the Giants in Week 4 of the 2024 NFL season.
He made a 60-yard field goal look easy in the second half, just like he did in Week 3. The NFL record is 66 yards by Justin Tucker of the Ravens, who is considered by many to be the greatest player of all time in that position. Dallas fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, claiming that their kicker could very well displace the Baltimore player at the top of the pile. Here are some of the responses.

Some observers chose to compare him to other athletes who have changed the way the game has been played. They mentioned people like Steph Curry, who has made the 3-pointer more common in basketball, and said that Brandon Aubrey is stretching the field to make 60-yarder normal kicking range. Here are some more reactions.
"The Steph Curry of kickers. Unreal."
"Brandon Aubrey being 18/18 on 50+ yard field goals is just toxic"
"brandon aubrey stumbles into the league and just starts hitting 60+ yarders like its his weekly sunday afternoon walk"
Brandon Aubrey's Cowboys story traces back to his wife
Brandon Aubrey made two 60-yard field goals in consecutive weeks after there were only two in the first 70 years of the NFL's history. He has now hit all 16 of his attempts in the league from over 50 yards. He is very much on the way to establishing himself as one of the greatest kickers of all time.
And to think that this never might have happened. Brandon Aubrey was drafted by Toronto FC in the MLS but could not establish himself as a top-level player in soccer. After that came to an end, he went to work as a software engineer.
And it was while doing that job, when he was watching an NFL game in 2019, that his wife mentioned placekicking as something he could do after someone missed a kick on the game they were viewing together on the TV.
He took that advice to heart and made it to the USFL, where he won two titles. That caught the Cowboys' attention and they brought him in to replace Brett Maher. He has since done ably and become a critical cog in Dallas' offense.
