Cowboys fans frustrated after franchise shows willingness to replace Brett Maher with “anybody else” - “Must have slept with a GM's wife”

The Dallas Cowboys were one of the most complete teams in the NFL last season, finishing the season with a top-five offense and defense. Dallas had a great deal of success on special teams as kicker Brett Maher made nearly 91% of his field-goal attempts in 2022. He also hit 50 of his league-leading 53 extra points with the team last season.

However, it seems that many Dallas fans want to replace the kicker with anyone else that's available. Fans of America's Team took to Reddit to express their frustration with Maher's performance:

A major reason why Dallas fans don't want Brett Maher back this season is due to his performance for the Dallas Cowboys in the playoffs. He made just one of six extra points attempts, missing four in the Wild Card Round against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In the 19-12 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, Maher made both of his field goal attempts but missed an extra point. The undrafted free-agent kicker started his career in Dallas for the first two seasons.

He played eight games for the New Orleans Saints in 2021 before returning to Dallas last season. Maher is currently a free agent.

Who are the kickers currently on the Cowboys roster?

The team signed kicker Tristan Vizcaino, who is the only kicker on the roster. Dallas special teams coordinator John Fassel made it clear after the team's rookie minicamp that the kicker is wide open:

“We have Tristan on the roster. Anybody else on earth who is not on the team right now is under consideration. That’s everyone, really. I think we have a lot of different guys that we’re still looking at: XFL, USFL, veterans on the street, younger guys who still haven’t found their way.”

Vizcaino has made 11 of his 12 career field goal attempts and 15 of his 20 extra point attempts throughout three NFL seasons. We'll see if the Cowboys brings back Maher, stick with Vizcaino, or sign another kicker this offseason.
