The Dallas Cowboys running game could use a spark, but owner Jerry Jones isn't ready to promote a big asset to improve. The Cowboys signed veteran running back Dalvin Cook just about a month ago and assigned him to the practice squad.

The move was seen as a way for Cook to learn Dallas' playbook and get in game shape since he had missed training camp. Entering Week 5, there still isn't any movement when it comes to activating Cook. On Tuesday, Jones made his weekly call on the "105.3 The Fan" morning show and stated that Cook wouldn't be promoted this week.

"Probably not this week." Jerry Jones said on 105.3 The Fan

The lack of urgency to promote Cook to the active roster ahead of Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers left fans on social media stunned. Most fans questioned the reasoning behind his signing in the first place. Others felt the Cowboys running game had nothing to lose at this point and that Cook could still help even though he isn't in his prime.

The Dallas Cowboys are now 2-2, and although Ezekiel Elliott is considered the starting running back, he hasn't been utilized as such. Fans called for Jones to be removed from his role as the general manager and just stick to the role of an owner who doesn't make roster decisions.

"This dude is the worst #FireJerrythegm," demanded one fan.
"The game has evolved beyond his comprehension. What the hell has he seen from Zeke or Deuce that Cook can’t see the field??" shared another fan.
"If this was a real franchise the coach would be making that decision." said one fan.

The conversation continued on X, formerly Twitter, as fans tried to decipher why Cook wouldn't at least be given an opportunity. He has 6,207 rushing yards and 47 rushing touchdowns in his seven seasons in the NFL.

"Jerry Jones is Al Davis at this point and that’s not a compliment," one fan who compared.
"Cowboys are either trolling, don’t think Dalvin Cook is ready, or they think he’s washed, because what are we doing here!?! #DallasCowboys," one fan shared.
"Does deuce and his dad have some dirty secrets on Jerry bc there ain’t no way dalvin cook ain’t better then Vaughn. I don’t care how old dalvin is. This is ridiculous at this point," one fan said.

Jerry Jones understands that fans blame him for Cowboys' struggles

The Dallas Cowboys started the 2024 NFL season with a win over the Cleveland Browns. After an offseason filled with question marks around the roster, fans were excited for the great start.

The wheels began to fall off with back-to-back losses to the New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens, and fans blamed Jerry Jones for not making the necessary roster moves to build a winning team.

Last week when he called into 105.3 The Fan, he was asked if he knew that fans blamed him for the team's struggles. He said he was aware and that he thought the fans were right to do so.

“It’s well known that no decision is ultimately made here for what I either have acquiesced [to] or approved it. That’s very fair. How could you think otherwise, whether it be who’s out there coaching, whether it be who’s out there playing, whether it be the stadium you’re walking into? Whatever it is here, that’s the way it is," Jones said.

Jones may have signed Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb to lucrative contracts, but fans believe he could have used the salary cap to make other moves.
