Former New York Jets coach Robert Saleh is expected to interview for the Dallas Cowboys head coaching role. Dallas has officially kicked off their search for their next head coach after officially parting ways with Mike McCarthy whose contract expired this week.

NFL Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday morning that the Cowboys are expected to interview Saleh.

"The #Cowboys have interest in and are expected to interview former #Jets coach Robert Saleh for the vacant head coach position, source said. Would be their first known request," Rapoport reported on X.

Fans on social media were split by the idea of Robert Saleh possibly becoming the next head coach. Some were encouraged by this news while others were fully against the idea.

Those on X who were against the idea of the Cowboys hiring Saleh felt that dealing with Jerry Jones and his family may be too much. One noted that the New York Jets are more "dysfunctional" than Dallas and he couldn't find success there. Another thought is that perhaps he should take a defensive coordinator position rather than a head coaching role.

"I think Saleh is a great coach and deserving of another shot as HC, but if he wasn't able to manage up and control Woody and his family, seems unlikely he'll be able to manage up and control Jerry."-one fan unsure of Saleh being a good fit said
"It Saleh couldn’t succeed in dysfunctional org like the Jets, he has no chance in Dallas."-one person said
"Awful, awful, awful, cant say awful enough. He's a DC, not a HC. Ugh."-said another

Meanwhile, those in favor of Robert Saleh coaching Dallas, felt that he could truly benefit the defense. Another said it was a good idea to interview him for the role.

"This would be a great hire. Our defense has not been great for quite some time especially against the run."-one in favor of the idea said
"Good decision for an interview."-another person on X said
"I would LOVE Robert Saleh as the #Cowboys next DC. Would be a great replacement for Mike Zimmer."-said one fan in favor of him being a defensive coordinator

Deion Sanders responds to report he could be Cowboys' next HC

The Cowboys coaching search may have just started but besides Robert Saleh, another candidate linked to the job is Deion Sanders. The former cornerback who now coaches the Colorado Buffaloes, share a good relationship with team owner Jerry Jones.

On Monday night, just hours after McCarthy's exit was made official, ESPN's NFL Insider, Adam Schefter reported that Sanders had spoken to Jones. Schefter also reported a quote from Sanders who considers the opportunity amazing but is currently satisfied coaching in Boulder.

“I love Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and believe in Jerry. After you hang up, and process it, and think about it, it’s intriguing. But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body and the community,” Sanders told Adam Schefter

After winning the NFC East in 2023, Dallas missed the playoffs this season, finishing with a 7-10 record and third place in the division.
