Mike McCarthy has been under fire from the Dallas Cowboys fans for not leading them to a Super Bowl. Add to that the fact that they last made it to the Super Bowl way back in 1996, McCarthy has his job cut out for him.
All this entails a constant volley of scrutiny directed at him, and at coaches in general, whenever their teams fail to perform well. In a recent conversation with reporters, he was asked if, after all these years in the NFL, he had gotten better at handling scrutiny.
"Some jobs are harder than others, I'm definitely aware of that. I just look at that as part of the job. The hardest part of the scrutiny, I think every head coach would answer it this way... it's really... your families. That's the group that has to learn to deal with it."
Even though he has accepted the harsh criticism he is subjected to as part and parcel of his job as an NFL coach, his family members are the unintended victims. And every coach's family has to learn how to become adept at dealing with it.

Things are only going to get harder for them this year. As Hall of Famer coach Tony Dungy said:
"It’s crazy, but the Cowboys coach and the Cowboys quarterback are going to be under more scrutiny than anybody in the NFL."
Last season, they recorded a 12-5 record in the regular season. The Cowboys went on to win the NFC East Championships, but they tanked in the Wild Card Round. Dak Prescott was even touted as an NFL MVP frontrunner, but in the end, Lamar Jackson took the title.
McCarthy has said that he doesn't feel any pressure personally though. And his mantra going into this season is going to be:
“You have to bet on yourself.”
When will Mike McCarthy get his starting QB?
With kickoff merely days away, Cowboy fans are wondering when they'll get to know if their star QB will be playing for the team or not.
An NFL analyst has the perfect answer to this. According to him, Jerry Jones will try to "steal the spotlight" and sign the contract once the season is underway.
That's also what the Bengals did with Joe Burrow last year when they announced that they were making him the highest-paid QB in NFL history, just three days before kickoff.
As Cowboys fans watch out for any rumblings of a possible signing, could Dak Prescott become the highest-paid QB in NFL history?
